A woman who won the contents of two abandoned storage units in Alabama has been left stunned after discovering the remains of more than a dozen people among the items. The woman who identified herself only as Rebekah purchased two storage units for $30 from a mobile facility. She then loaded the furniture and boxes inside and took it to her home in Baldwin County.
She was stunned when she and her husband found the cremated remains of 13 people inside the containers. “That was one of the furthest things from my mind when I thought about doing an auction for a storage unit. I never thought that,” she told KFOR. Rebekah and her husband weren’t initially bothered that it was a funeral director’s unit, but when it opened, that quickly changed.

“We realized that it was the unit of a funeral director. That was no big deal to me. He was like, ‘What is this?’ And then I looked and was like, ‘Well, that’s cremated remains,'” Rebekah told Nexstar’s WKRG. The cremations date back to 1992, most recently in 2019. Rebekah was already planning to reunite them with relatives, by the time she found the cremations.
For the past few weeks, she has been doing just that. “It’s actually been quite easy, surprisingly… I’ve been lucky every time I got the right family members and they were okay with it,” she said. There were five families who were happy to receive phone calls from Rebeca. Cassandra Jones, whose husband Dan died, was one of them. Jones told KFOR: ”
After the funeral was over, they told me they would take care of everything and from what I understand, that’s what I thought they had done.” “It’s been devastating… It’s really been devastating. It feels like I’m reliving this all over again,” Jones said. More families could get that same phone call, according to Rebekah, who plans to keep trying to reunite families with the remains of her loved ones.
The remaining cremations are those of Steve L Frazier, whose date of death is listed as February 24, 1992. Carl Anthony Williams is listed as his date of death as June 13, 2014, and Kendal Jay Brown was cremated on January 18, 2014. 2015.
Irene Foster was cremated on July 2, 1993, Larry Cecil Ross, whose date of death was November 8, 2003, and Willie Martin Jr. are part of Rebekah’s list. Jimmie Lee Craig was cremated on June 9, 1997 and Melissa Stallworth was cremated on January 5, 1994. Lastly, Jimmie Herrin’s date of death is April 13, 2019 and Rebekah intends to return them all to House.
