Britt Reid, the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach, will plead guilty to a felony DWI charge stemming from his 2021 car accident that seriously injured a young girl, his attorney announced Tuesday. Reid, who is also the son of the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid was involved in a fatal accident that injured two children, one of whom had sustained life-threatening injuries to himself. According to multiple reports, court records indicate that Reid will plead guilty on September 12 and faces up to seven years in prison.

“Mr. Reid regrets his actions and hopes that his guilty plea provides a sense of justice to all those he affected,” Reid’s attorney, JR Hobbs, said in a statement. Reid, 37, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol when his Ram pickup truck crashed into two vehicles near Arrowhead Stadium on Feb. 4, 2021. When one car ran out of gas on the entrance ramp, a second car arrived and parked. on the driveway before approaching to help. The second car had a 5 year old and a 4 year old in the back seat. After some time, a third car, allegedly driven by Reid, sped up and struck the left front of the first vehicle and then the rear of the second vehicle. The accident injured both boys and left 5-year-old Ariel Young with a traumatic brain injury and caused non-life-threatening injuries to the 4-year-old.
“Mr. Reid sincerely apologizes to A.Y. and his family, and his own family,” Hobbs said. “He also extends his deep apologies to the Hunt family, the Chiefs organization and Chiefs Kingdom.” Court documents say Reid measured a blood alcohol level of 0.113 and was driving 83 miles per hour 1.9 seconds before the crash. Reid later confessed that he had two or three drinks before driving and also took a prescription Adderall. Reid, who originally pleaded not guilty in April, was scheduled for his criminal trial to begin Sept. 26, but will likely avoid it now. The accident occurred three days before the Chiefs lost to the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. Reid coached the Chiefs from 2013 to 2020. His contract was not renewed after the 2020 season.
