Prosecutors allege Anderson killed him because Gutierrez was having a romantic relationship with Sadie Beacham, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children. Gutierrez’s body has never been recovered and his friends and family have not heard from him in nearly three years. Prosecutors maintain Gutierrez is dead based on the large amount of blood spatter found inside his apartment.

Gutierrez, a father of two young children, was reported missing on May 19, 2020, after Beacham went to his apartment in the 3700 block of 15th Street and found the patio door open with large bloodstains on the floor. , the door and the furniture. Beacham testified that she had been trying to reach him by phone before driving to his apartment out of deep concern for his well-being.

Kenosha police focused on Anderson after Beacham reported that Anderson had been harassing and harassing her in the weeks after she began to develop a relationship with Gutierrez. Anderson is charged with first degree intentional manslaughter, a Class A felony that carries a sentence of life in prison if convicted. Anderson is also charged with the felony concealment of a body and stalking.

Anderson and Beacham‘s son, whom Kenosha News does not name, said Anderson asked him to spy on her mother and record with a smartphone “every time my mother would get upset.” and he would try to get Beacham into trouble. On the night of April 24-25, 2020, the daughter said Anderson took the two of them to Beacham’s Germantown residence to spy on Beacham and Gutierrez, who were inside on the couch, through a window.

The girl said Anderson also went through Gutierrez’s truck that night and took a photo of her license plate and registration before ringing Beacham’s bell and running back to her own vehicle and away from her. On May 16, the day before prosecutors believe Gutierrez was killed, the girl said Anderson drove her and her siblings to their family’s tree farm with his work truck, the same truck Anderson allegedly took. Drove to a Saukville Walmart on the morning of May 18, 2020 to purchase trash bags, cleaning wipes, and gloves.

On Wednesday, the girl testified that the van was not missing a part of the carpet and that she had no bleach stains on May 16 when she traveled to the tree farm. Investigators later found a speck of a dried, rust-colored liquid that tested positive for Gutierrez’s DNA and evidence of bleach washing. Portions of the van’s interior carpeting were also removed. She also testified that Anderson had used a racial slur to describe Gutierrez in the past and hinted that she would follow him.

“He said something about showing him who the man was, and I didn’t quite get it, but you did pick up on things my father was referring to or implying,” the boy said. “My dad told me, ‘I might just watch him or follow him to his house once just for fun. Those were his exact words from him to me.” Anderson is being held on $750,000 cash bond in the Kenosha County Jail. He has been in custody since shortly after the disappearance of Gutierrez, initially accused of harassment.

The murder charge was added in December 2020 after an investigation found evidence indicating that Anderson may have moved Gutierrez’s body in his truck to another location. The trial, now in its third week, has generated headlines across the country and on social media. Judge Bruce Schroeder presides over the trial before a jury of eight women and five men, including an alternate.

The prosecution is led by District Attorney Michael Graveley, who throughout the trial has argued that Anderson killed Gutierrez out of jealousy and an obsession with his ex-girlfriend. Defense attorney Nicole Muller has argued that Kenosha police failed to look for other possible suspects and prematurely zeroed in on Anderson based on claims made by Beacham. On Wednesday, someone filed a complaint against Beacham alleging that he used sign language to communicate with instructions from his daughter on the stand. Beacham was called back to the stand and said she is somewhat fluent in American Sign Language.

Beacham denied instructing her son even though she had line of sight to the boy. “She had her hands under the pews,” Beacham said, adding that she could have said “calm down” when her son was getting “saucy” on the dais. Schroeder also warned those present in court not to text or take pictures. Prosecutors also questioned whether Anderson gave his daughter instructions while she was on the stand and reviewed video of him allegedly tampering with the witness.
