Vadim Boyko, 44, had multiple gunshot wounds when a junior officer found him at the Makarov Pacific Higher Naval School in the far eastern city of Vladivostok, where he was deputy head. Local Russian media outlet Dalnevostochnie Novosti and TV journalist Vladimir Oshchenko reported that Boyko committed suicide. Local media reported that Boyko was heavily involved in the massive mobilization of Russian troops to be sent to Ukraine in September. He was also in charge of armaments and ammunition at the Vladivostok military college. It comes after Lt. Col. Roman Malyk was found dead on a fence in the Primorsky region, also in Russia’s far east.
Malyk was in charge of mobilization efforts in the region’s Partizan district. Authorities ruled his death a suicide, though investigators later opened a murder investigation. Family and friends said suicide was unlikely, although that was the final official verdict on his death.
