A well known saxophonist and vocalist Steve Sostak recently passed away at the age of 49. The cause of death has not yet been revealed. A person named Faye Kolly, a longtime friend of Sostak’s, paid tribute to him on Facebook in a lengthy post, stating:

Kolly mentioned that Sostak was a “shining light” to all who knew and loved him. Kolly said that she remembers Sostak as someone who was passionate about music and the band. He was a member who was always willing to perform at an Amnesty International letter drive concert on campus that they organized.

Kolly said it was one of the best memories of college when they changed the letter of his name to “It’s too bad about Ray.” She continued: Kolly asked everyone to contact those who have been in contact with Steve Sostak for a long time. Kolly went on to say that he would be sorely missed by everyone and that his life had meaning. The post ended by saying:

Steve Sostak gained recognition in all these years as an impeccable performer. Twitter was flooded with tributes when people learned of his death: Steve Sostak was the co-founder of Inspire Citizens, whose goal is to empower teachers and students to take impactful action. He enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and began acting with Chris Daly on Check Engine.

The duo moved to Chicago and met a few more people, including Scott Ana and Matt Alicea, and led to the formation of Sweep The Leg Johnny. The group released a few albums until they broke up and established another group, ZZZZ. ZZZZ’s first album titled Palm Reader was released in 2005 and the group performed at different events.

Sostak then changed his profession to teaching for the next few years. With the help of Inspire Citizens, he helped spark the passions of educators and students to build community and solve problems through the design of media and global impact projects.
