According to DailyMail, in one incident in 2016, Papini disappeared from Redding, California while out for a run. Her mother-of-two returned weeks later nearly hundreds of miles away “dazed, battered and bruised” according to reports, claiming that two Latina women kidnapped her for 22 days.
According to Mangas, “the sheriff asked me, because I’m a deacon in my church, he asked me about a certain Bible verse.” He further added: “So I told her it’s Exodus 21:16, and it says something like ‘if someone has kidnapped someone, they should be executed.’ This was written in ink on Sherri’s shoulder.
However, when Papini returned, she told a made up story about how she disappeared. The 39-year-old woman was able to convince the people and the authorities of her story. However, at a later point in the investigation, it was discovered that she was faking her own abduction. Papini pleaded guilty to faking her own kidnapping and lying to the FBI and now faces jail time. She will be sentenced on September 19.
