Mourners at Olivia Pratt Korbel’s funeral wore a ‘touch of pink’ to remember the 9-year-old girl who was shot to death in her home during gang violence. The little schoolgirl was buried in a funeral service that began around 11. am. The funeral mass was held at St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Knotty Ash, Liverpool. People gathered in the street as the girl’s white coffin, decorated with butterflies and floral wreaths in the shape of a teddy bear, arrived at the church in a white horse-drawn carriage.

Olivia’s mother, Cheryl Korbel, who brought a big pink teddy bear to the funeral, said: “She was a strong, independent child. Even as a little girl, she used to make a lot of decisions on her own. She added: “Olivia was very talkative and cheerful and spoke for England, to the point where we thought she had Duracell batteries inside her somewhere.”

Olivia’s schoolmates weren’t asked to attend the funeral, but they will remember her friend in a different way. Rebecca Wilkinson, principal at St Margaret Mary Catholic Secondary School, where Olivia was a student, said: “All 480 of our children will make flowers, and each one of those 480 flowers will be put together to make a memorial for Olivia.” The pink theme is a nod to a time when Olivia used to wear pink nail polish to school and used to hide her little hands from the teachers, Wilkinson said.
The principal also revealed that the young pupils at the school plan to build a rose garden and name part of the playground after the nine-year-old boy.Olivia was shot dead at her Liverpool home on the night of Monday 22nd August by an armed gangster. Officials have arrested nine so far in connection with the murder, but no charges have yet been filed. Earlier this month, fellow Tory Lord Ashcroft, founder of the Crimestoppers charity, announced that he had personally provided a £50,000 reward for new information leading to the conviction of his killers.
