Nipon Goswami Biography
Nipon Goswami (September 3, 1942 – October 27, 2022) [1] was an Assamese-language cinema actor and theatre performer from India. He was a veteran of the Assamese film industry. He began his his career as a theater actor and then established himself as a film actor.
Personal details
He was born on September 3, 1942, in Kolibari, Tezpur, Assam. His father, Chandradhar Goswami, was a well-known actor, and his mother, Nirupama Goswami, was a well-known vocalist. He attended Kolibari LP School for his primary education. He then transferred to Tezpur Govt. HS School. He died on October 27, 2022, after suffering from heart problems.
Acting career
After finishing his B.A., he traveled to Calcutta for an interview at the Pune Film Institute. He moved to Pune for acting classes in 1965. His students were Subhash Ghai, Navin Nischol, and Shatrughan Sinha, among others.
Filmography
In 1957, he made his Assamese film debut as a child artist in the film Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sarma. Sangram, his debut Assamese film as a lead actor, was a box office success. His following film, Dr. Bezbaruah, which was released in 1969, established him as a star, and he went on to appear in several films over the next few years. He also appeared as a character actor in a few Hindi films.
He has been active in mobile theaters such as Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala. He has appeared in a few TV shows, including ‘Writu aahe writu jaai.’
