A Detroit grandmother is responsible for parenting 12 children after her daughter, Nikita Washington, passed away while giving birth. The deceased mother, an African American woman, passed away the day after giving birth to Nathaniel, her 12-th child, through C-section at Harper University Hospital. The grandmother, Patricia Pouncey, is shocked as she thinks back to her daughter’s awful death in December.
Her ambiguity regarding the events leading up to her daughter’s death has made the agony of her passing worse. Pouncey says that because Nikita’s husband was incarcerated, her daughter had to travel to the hospital by herself. She now regrets not accompanying her daughter to the hospital since she had to stay at home to care for her other grandchildren.

Detroit-based mother Nikita Washington passed away in 2017 while giving birth to her twelfth child. On December 22, Washington gave birth to Nathaniel, her twelfth child, at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit. The following day, Daveia Knox, her sister, visited the hospital to view the newborn but was not aware that her sister was having problems.Due to internal bleeding, Nikita’s oxygen level had decreased, and she needed a ventilator and emergency surgery.
She passed away at 11:55 a.m. from postpartum haemorrhage and complications from several C-sections, despite her family’s pleas to rescue her.Since they have not heard from the hospital, the family wonders if everything that could have been done was done to rescue Washington.
Washington died, leaving her 12 children without a mother. However, their care is being provided for by her mother, sisters, and extended family. The younger children’s father is incarcerated, while the older children’s father is dead. Without their families, the kids would have been admitted to Michigan’s foster care system.

Patricia raises her grandchildren with the support of her religion and is appreciative of the gifts that made it possible for the family to purchase a new house and a dependable car. According to her obituary, Nikita Washington passed died in Eastpointe, Michigan, on December 23, 2022. She was born to adoring parents on October 19, 1987. On January 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm, a funeral service was held at Q A Cantrell Funeral Services LLC. in Eastpointe, which is located at 22121 Kelly Road. Because of privacy rules, Detroit Medical Centre, which runs Harper University Hospital, declined to comment on her passing.
Only condolences were extended to the family. Patricia Pouncey, who is currently raising Nikita’s 12 children, exhorts family members to zealously support their pregnant or giving birth loved ones.
