The defendant, 29-year-old Negasi Zuberi, was taken into federal custody for alleged interstate kidnapping following the reported escape of the Washington woman from an alleged makeshift cell concealed in the garage on the man’s property in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The FBI is now looking for additional victims. The maximum sentence for that offense is life in prison.

The FBI claims that on July 15, Zuberi went 450 miles from her residence in Oregon to Seattle, where she reportedly solicited a prostitute while posing as an undercover police officer, according to Seattle police. In a statement given to detectives, the victim claims that Zuberi handcuffed and shackled her before pointing a Taser at her and pushing her into the backseat of her car. She claims he then drove her for around seven and a half hours back to her house in Oregon, during which time he reportedly sexually assaulted her.
Zuberi allegedly put the lady in a cell in her garage after bringing her to her house in Klamath Falls. The woman was finally able to escape from her supposed cell by constantly pounding on the metal door when Zuberi was purportedly absent from the house. According to reports, she ran from the property and flagged down a passing motorist who dialed 911.
According to reports, Zuberi ran away from the area but was eventually found in Reno, Nevada, more than four hours away from Klamath Falls. “We are fortunate that this courageous woman managed to flee and inform the authorities. The following day, we were able to apprehend Zuberi thanks to prompt police intervention. Sadly, we have now connected Zuberi to further violent sexual attacks in at least three different cases, even though she might have protected future victims.
Beyond Washington, the FBI has expanded its investigation for potential victims into numerous other states. In in as many years, it has been claimed that Zuberi has lived in ten different states, including California, Colorado, Utah, Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Alabama. According to the FBI, there are good reasons to think that the alleged attack in the Pacific Northwest was not an isolated incident and that additional Zuberi victims may come forward and report sexual assault.
