A 17-year-old Florida babysitter was arrested last week after it was claimed that she recorded herself reportedly placing a lighted marijuana cigarette in the mouth of her friend’s 1-year-old child and watching as the child inhaled. In relation to the incident, Naledi Roberts was apprehended on Friday and charged with one count of felony child abuse, according to law enforcement officials.
Deputies arrived to a private property in an unincorporated area of Largo on Thursday, March 23, in response to a report of a kid who may have been assaulted, according to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Around 25 miles to the west of Tampa is Largo.

Deputies said they established contact with Roberts and the victim when they arrived at the home. Roberts revealed that the victim’s 16-year-old mother had placed the youngster in her care. According to deputies, the mother and Roberts are buddies.
Roberts allegedly confirmed during questioning that she had been smoking a joint “near the victim,” but she denied ever putting the joint in the child’s mouth. Detectives were able to obtain the film, which shows Roberts inserting the marijuana cigarette in the victim’s mouth, through a variety of investigative procedures.
The victim then inhales while holding the lit marijuana cigarette in their mouth, which causes the embers to shine more brightly, according to the sheriff’s office. Roberts inhales, making the embers burn brighter, after taking the marijuana cigarette out of the one-year-old victim’s mouth and placing it in her own. Detectives conducted a second interview with Roberts on March 24 after getting a copy of the tape.
Deputies report that Roberts “confessed to watching the victim and placing the marijuana cigarette in the victim’s mouth” during the follow-up interview. Detectives said that Roberts declined to provide them an explanation for why, when the youngster was in her care, she put the lit marijuana cigarette in his mouth.
She was subsequently apprehended and safely transferred to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center. It’s unknown how cops came across the allegedly Roberts-shot video of the victim. A request from Law&Crime asking for more information in the continuing inquiry was not immediately answered by the sheriff’s office.
