Four days after she was allegedly killed by her husband, Nabaruna Karmakar’s family is seeking money to support efforts to reduce gun violence. According to the police and the call obtained by CBS 17 and WRAL, Michael Aaron Matthews, 40, called 911 on April 14 to report a possible double suicide after killing his wife Karmakar, 33, at their Morrisville, North Carolina, home.
When a dispatcher called Matthews to corroborate what he had stated, Matthews allegedly said, “Yes. Thank you,” the news outlets said. Soon after 9 o’clock, the call stopped again, and officers arrived on the scene.Karmakar was discovered there with two gunshot wounds, from which, according to WRAL, she eventually passed away.

Naba’s family is raising money for the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund in the hopes that there won’t be any more casualties. According to its website, the nonprofit organisation was founded in 2013 and promotes the reduction of gun violence. Additionally, it conducts research on gun violence and provides programmes and training that are trauma-informed for survivors.
Karmakar had a PhD in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University and had worked in research at the SAS Institute until she passed away, according to WRAL. According to ABC 11 and police, Karmakar’s husband was later detained and accused with murder.
There is no clear explanation for the violence. According to the outlet, Matthews made an appearance in court on April 17 and is currently being kept in custody without bond. It’s unclear whether he entered a guilty plea or retained legal representation.
