Michel Paul Fournire Cause of Death
He had worked in different sectors, including as a forestry worker and school supervisor. He was arrested in June 2003 for the attempted kidnapping of a teenager in Ciney. Later, he confessed to killing nine people, including eight women and one man.
On May 28, 2008, Fourniret was convicted of seven of these murders and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. In 2018, the killer confessed to killing two more women. Meanwhile, Fourniret and Olivier were convicted of the murder of Farida Hammiche, the last of eight women Fourniret confessed to killing.
This confession led to Fourniret seeking a second life sentence and Olivier to another 20 years in prison. Fourniret confessed to killing Estelle Mouzin in 2020. After his arrest, he even bragged that he was a “much better” killer than sadistic Belgian pedophile Marc Dutroux, according to France 24.
Fourniret was first arrested in 1966 for sexually assaulting a girl. While in jail for committing this crime, he met Oliver through a pen pal program. The criminal wrote his sexual fantasies about him and how he wanted to kill young virgins. Oliver then replied that she would “help” him fulfill those fantasies if she killed her husband, even though he never committed this murder. After Fourniret was released from prison in 1987, the duo began a relationship, and she began helping him in the murders.
He used her to trap some of his victims and check their hymens to see if they were virgins. Fourniret collapsed in his prison cell on November 20, 2020, just two weeks before police began digging for the remains of nine-year-old Estelle Mouzin, whom he raped and killed with the help of Oliver. He subsequently passed away on May 10, 2021 at the age of 79 after being admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems.
Fourniret was rushed from Fresnes prison to a secure unit at the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris on May 8, 2021 after “suffering from respiratory problems”, according to The Mirror. A source told the outlet at the time that he “suffers from heart problems and mental degeneration, he has slipped into a coma and doctors believe he cannot be resuscitated.”
Following Fourniret’s death, Richard Delgene, Olivier’s lawyer, said: “Michel Fourniret takes his secrets with him. As we still have many ongoing cases, Monique Olivier will remain the only one in the dock who will be held accountable.”
