Madalina Cojocari Wiki – Madalina Cojocari Biography

Diana Cojocari told investigators she last saw her daughter inside her home in Cornelius, North Carolina, on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 23, around 10 p.m., according to the arrest report seen Tuesday in court. The data is consistent with information previously made public by the researchers. What became publicly known for the first time on Tuesday is that Diana Cojocari claimed that she and her husband, Christopher Palmiter, had an argument that night.

In interviews with authorities, both Diana Cojocari and Palmiter told investigators that she left for Michigan after the argument, according to the document. Although Diana appears to have told officials that she left early the next morning, and allegedly told them that she left that same night, both people told authorities that she made the trip to “pick up items.”

Incident Detail

Palmiter, who is Madalina’s stepfather, told authorities that he did not see his stepdaughter the night of the argument, according to the document. Rather, he claims that he last saw her a week earlier. Madalina was last seen in class at Bailey High School on Monday, November 21, the document states. After Madalina repeatedly failed to show up for class at Bailey High School, the school resource officer and school counselor went to the girl’s home on December 12, the arrest sheet explains. School officials documented that no one answered the door.

On Wednesday, December 14, the school resource officer called Diana Cojocari to request an in-person meeting, the document explains. The mother allegedly told the counselor that she would show up the next day at school with her daughter. North Carolina state law requires school districts to alert the district attorney or Department of Social Services if a child has 10 unexcused absences in a year.

The policy is enacted when parents have not made a good faith effort to get the child to school. When Diana Cojocari arrived at the school the next day, she did not have Madalina with her, according to the document. In that meeting, the mother reveals for the first time that she noticed the girl was not in her bedroom around 11:30 a.m. after the fight with Palmiter, according to the document.

Although it had been 22 days since she last saw her daughter, documentation indicates that neither Cojocari nor Palmiter reported Madalina missing until this meeting with the school resource officer. In the interview with Diana Cojocari at the school, the mother stated that she waited until Saturday. November 26, the day Palmiter allegedly returned from Michigan, before asking him about Madalina’s whereabouts.

The mother claimed that Palmiter said she did not know where the girl was. Diana Cojocari allegedly told the school resource officer that she had not reported the girl missing because she was “concerned that a ‘conflict’ could start between her and Christopher,” the document says. At the request of the school resource officer, Palmiter comes to the school the same day for an interview.

In her interview, Palmiter also said that she did not know the whereabouts of the girl, according to the documentation. He claimed that he spoke to his wife several times during the three-week period that Madalina was missing. He claimed that during those conversations he asked her wife about the girl, but Diana repeatedly claimed that she did not know the whereabouts of the girl, according to the document.

Palmiter alleged that both he and his wife asked the other if they had “hid Madalina,” according to the documentation. Both told the other no, according to Palmiter’s summary of the interview. In court on Tuesday, Diana Cojocari, who had been arrested along with Palmiter on December 17 for failing to report the girl missing, had bail increased to $250,000.

The prosecutor told the judge that Cojocari had been hindering the investigation and that he was concerned that she would continue to hinder the investigation if she were released. The judge ordered Cojocari to be electrically monitored if she posted bail. Before a different judge Monday, Palmiter also obtained bail for him and was charged by the district attorney’s office with hindering the investigation.

At 11 a.m. m. Tuesday, records showed that both Cojocari and Palmiter had failed to post bail. On Monday, the search area for the missing girl was expanded to include Lake Cornelius, a separate body of water across Interstate 77 from Lake Norman in Cornelius.

The Cornelius Police Department is being assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI in their investigation. On its website, the FBI has highlighted the disappearance as its “Case of the Week.” The FBI Michigan Field Office confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that they are assisting the FBI Charlotte Field Office with the investigation.

A prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the girls’ neighborhood, which is located on Victoria Bay Drive in Cornelius. Organizers are asking people who drive to park at Smithville Park. Cornelius is located in northern Mecklenburg County, less than 20 miles from Charlotte.
