The body of a Bronx mother of eight who was strangled to death with wire or rope has been found in her apartment bed. Jeremy Cortorreal, 33, an ex-convict and boyfriend of Lisette Gomez, was charged with her murder and was arrested on Thursday, March 23, according to investigators. Cortorreal was charged with murder, manslaughter and assault in connection with the death of the 38-year-old woman.
The body of the murdered woman was found Wednesday afternoon, March 22, inside her apartment on Cauldwell Avenue, near Westchester Avenue. According to the medical examiner’s office, serious injuries were found on her face and neck. Her death has been ruled a homicide by suffocation on a possible wire or rope. Police recovered an extension cord from the crime scene.

However, it was not clear if it was used to strangle Gomez or if another cable or rope was used, the New York Post reported. Regarding domestic violence concerns, Gomez’s neighbors said she lived with her two youngest children of her eight children. A neighbor, who requested anonymity, said the slain woman and the accused killer began seeing each other in late September or early October.
“She met him and the next week he was living there. I was like, ‘What the hell did you do?’ It’s a big deal. Domestic violence. These girls need to get away after the first time.” said the neighbor. Nini Rodríguez, 59, a neighbor of Gómez, said that she had known the victim for about 10 years.
Rodriguez said the victim’s life gradually changed after many years of battling drug addiction, but she recently met a “very abusive” man and entered into a relationship with him. “Everyone would see him hitting her. She was always scarred in the face, black and blue, and she would tell people that he was abusive,” she said Rodríguez.
“She was involved with the wrong person. Before that person came into her life, she was a great person. She was always happy, sweet to everyone, with a good heart, she always wanted to help. We knew that she was in danger with the boyfriend that she had, and we were telling her that she had to get rid of her boyfriend, but she wouldn’t get rid of her boyfriend, so she looks what happened,” she added.
