A 13-year-old girl was arrested Tuesday, August 23, in connection with the death of yellow cab driver Kutin Gyimah in Queens earlier this month. The teenager was charged with gang assault and theft of services, and is the fourth suspect arrested for fatally beating Kutin, 53, on August 13. Police are still looking to charge another suspect.
Kutin was reportedly killed after he chased down a group of five men and women who tried to rob him in the Rockaways. According to law enforcement sources, surveillance video taken from a pole near Beach 54th Street and Arverne Boulevard showed his taxi pulling up around 6:20 am. Five passengers were seen running from the back seat. Kutin managed to catch one of the suspects and held him down as the rest of the group returned and began beating him, the New York Post reported.

Kutin stood up after the assault and was then punched by one member of the group. He fell to the ground backward and hit his head on the sidewalk, according to the footage, following which he stopped moving. “These murderers must be caught and we are offering a $15,000 reward … All funeral expenses will be covered by the owners of Big Apple Taxi Fleet Management where Mr [Gyimah] worked,” Fernando Mateo, spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, said at the time.
Three other suspects, including two men and a teenage girl, were earlier charged in connection with the case. Besides a 15-year-old girl who was arrested, 20-year-old Austin Amos and 20-year-old Nickolas Porter turned themselves in. All the suspects have been charged with gang assault and theft of services, and Amos is facing additional charges of manslaughter and assault. He has been accused of delivering the blow that caused Kutin to fall to the ground and fatally hit his head on the sidewalk.
