A Florida man fatally shot his 14-year-old sister in the face in a tragedy he initially passed off as a self-inflicted wound, authorities allege. Keon Martavious Thornhill, 19, was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Thursday for second-degree murder with a weapon, records show. Officers did not identify the victim, but the family did identify her as Brianna, according to WSVN.

“The defendant spontaneously stated that he was involved in a verbal dispute with the victim, he went to his second-floor bedroom and recovered a firearm,” police said. “The defendant then came downstairs with the firearm, stating that he had cleaned it and handed it over to the victim. The defendant further claimed that the victim shot himself in the face.”
The Miami-Dade Fire Department pronounced her dead at 12:27 a.m. m. ET. Thornhill eventually admitted to shooting his sister, officers said. “While the defendant was in custody, he told officers on the scene several times: ‘I shot him. It was a mistake. Take me inside,'” the officers said.
Officers took him to the Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters. There he allegedly gave several different versions of how the shooting occurred. “My daughter was a wonderful person,” the mother of both teens told CBS4. “She was very respectful, she was a sweet girl, my girl, and now she is gone. She meant the world to us and we are heartbroken.”
