Joshua Moody and Hannah Wingert Incident Detail

The victim suffered “multiple broken bones and internal injuries,” according to the police, and once at the children’s hospital, medical staff was able to confirm this. Doctors also reported that the boy had a broken collarbone, two popped eardrums, bleeding in the brain, pancreatitis, liver lacerations, an acute renal damage, and both the tibia and fibula in his right leg. In addition, the boy apparently had a fractured vertebra in his back.

According to the press statement, the child’s primary encounter diagnosis suggested non-accidental trauma. Investigators claim they quickly discovered that Wingert and Moody “battered” the youngster, reportedly resulting in the serious injuries. The two were detained on Friday and charged with attempted murder and maltreatment.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by the Cowboy State Daily newspaper revealed more details on the events behind the toddler’s injury. Wingert’s grandmother reportedly told police that when she picked up her daughter Moody and her grandson from a motel on August 23, she noticed that the toddler looked “horrible” and had major bruises on his face and limbs. The youngster had a strange “homemade brace” on his right leg, and she also noticed that both of his eyelids were swollen shut.

In a hospital interview, Wingert reportedly admitted to authorities that her son had fell in the shower and mentioned that he frequently self-harmed. On August 24, Moody reportedly called the police and said Wingert had “admitted to everything,” according to Cowboy State.

He allegedly admitted to investigators that he saw Wingert repeatedly beat her son in the head and face during a subsequent interrogation. Furthermore, he allegedly stated that Wingert was allegedly assaulting her son on August 23 when she allegedly seized both of his legs and swung the child “like a baseball bat from right to left towards the window” of the motel. Wingert apparently only released one of the boy’s legs as she completed the swing, allowing him to swing around her body until coming to a sudden stop as he struck her shoulder.

According to reports, Moody claimed to have heard the toddler’s leg “snap.”Wingert allegedly laid the toddler on the bed while covering his lips with her hand to block out the sound of his screams of anguish.Moody allegedly informed police that Wingert had threatened to murder him if she revealed what she had done.On September 6, Wingert and Moody, who are both being held in the Laramie County Jail, are expected in court.
