A delivery guy for Best Buy was sentenced to life plus 30 years for fatally beating a grandmother and setting her on fire. According to police, Udell suffered significant burns across most of her body and blunt force injuries to her skull. The woman was discovered on the floor of the laundry room, resting against the washing machine, with her garments completely enveloped, according to B.R.F.D. personnel who arrived on the scene immediately. They turned on the oven, identified and lit each hob burner and started the dryer.
Udell was transferred to an intensive care unit (ICU) in severe condition, according to the police, with several skull and face fractures, a brain bleed, and second- and third-degree burns covering the majority of her body. They stated, “She has been given hospice care.”
The next day, the police reported that she had passed away.According to vCops, they responded to an assault complaint on August 19, 2019, at around 9:15 a.m. The witness, who works as a delivery driver for JB Home Delivery, stated he and Lachazo were hired to transport appliances for Best Buy. To Udell’s house, they brought a washer and a dryer. This man said that she was the only person present at the house.
After replacing the old washer and dryer with the new ones, the driver claimed, he went outside to answer numerous missed calls from their home office. Lachazo stayed indoors throughout this time. He was meant to explain the new equipment to Udell and respond to her queries.
The driver, however, said that he soon heard screaming coming from the house and saw a garage door closing. He walked to the front door out of concern and saw blood on the “laundry room/bathroom” floor. Near the blood, Udell was lying on the ground.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Dupre Lachazo told the driver they had to go while acting suspiciously. The driver walked outside out of concern for his safety and dialled 911 and his supervisor right away. Police reported that Lachazo boarded the delivery vehicle and left the area.According to papers, when police discovered and stopped the white box truck, they discovered the driver was shaking and sweating uncontrollably.
They noticed that his lower leg hair, which was burned since he was wearing shorts, was exposed. The surface of his legs had ashes on them. Blood was found by the police at Udell’s residence. Burn marks may be seen, among other places, on a wooden door frame and the base of the washing machine. The washing machine was covered in a bloody mallet with a wooden handle, and there was a strong chemical stench.
Documents show that Lachazo admitted using the mallet to strike Udell in the head, knocking her unconscious. He shut the garage door, went to get a chemical agent, and came back to the laundry room to douse Udell and the space.
Police added that after making a move with his hands, the chemical “spontaneously combusted.” “He denied knowing the source of ignition that lit the fire.” According to the police, Lachazo acknowledged using cocaine and marijuana recently.
