A five-year-old girl died of suffocation, leaving her family “destroyed”. Imogen Lennon from Canowindra in New South Wales, Australia, began choking on her “favorite” snack in the back seat of her mother’s car. On Monday, January 16, Samantha Lennon picked up her daughter from her swimming lessons and offered her a wiener to eat on the way home.
Imogen was talking to her mother in her back seat when she suddenly began to choke. After the ambulance failed to show up, Samantha took her to the nearest hospital where Imogen later died, according to the Daily Mail. “Despite Sam’s heroic efforts, calling an ambulance, help from a passerby, and ultimately driving Imogen to the hospital herself (the ambulance was too far away to make it in time), the beautiful Imogen later passed away in the hospital,” said family friend Tamara.

Harrison wrote on GoFundMe. “To make sense of such a tragic loss in such a way is inconceivable, there are no words that can accurately describe how shattered Imogen’s family is. It is impossible to imagine life without Imogen,” she added. Harrison said that frankfurters were one of Imogen’s “favorite” snacks after swimming lessons.
The five-year-old girl, who was the youngest, is survived by her parents Samantha and William, her older brothers Hayden and Bailey, her sister Tamzin, as well as a large extended family. The fundraiser, which will help her family pay for her funeral expenses, has raised $27,189 above its goal of $25,000.
According to Harrison, the Lennons are “true Aussie fighters” who constantly help people in need. “They would take their shirts off their backs, without a second thought if someone needed it,” he wrote. “The burden of trying to find the money to pay for Imogen’s final resting place and a proper celebration of her short life is a burden I would like to take off this family as they deal with such an unthinkable tragedy.”
Imogen, who has been described as “brilliant, determined, caring and daring”, will say goodbye on Saturday, January 28 at a nearby church. Mourners are invited to attend the service dressed in “bright colors” in her honor.
