Gabby Petito’s father Wiki – Gabby Petito’s father Biography

Gabby Petito’s father, Joseph, honored his murdered 22-year-old daughter a year after the YouTuber’s body was found and called for an effort to bring missing people home. Petito’s remains were found by law enforcement officials on September 19 last year, weeks after the social media influencer disappeared during a cross-country “dream” trip from New York to Oregon with her fiancé Brian Laundrie.

Her body was later found, and officials said she was strangled to death in the Wyoming national park and listed Laundrie as her person of interest. About a month later, authorities found Laundrie’s skeletal human remains inside the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in Florida.

Incident Detail

Autopsy results showed that she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a notebook found near the remains contained a note claiming responsibility for Petito’s murder. Reflecting on losing her, Mr. Petito shared a post on Monday, writing: “I want to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown our families.  “It is thanks to all of you that we were able to bring [Gabby Petito] home. Today is particularly difficult for us, but if you can, please take a moment and share a [missing persons] story to help bring them home safely,” he added.

The family had started the Gabby Petito Foundation in October of last year. The foundation aims to meet “the needs of organizations that support the location of missing persons and provide assistance to organizations that assist victims of situations of domestic violence, through education, awareness and prevention strategies.” The case made national headlines last year after Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, reported him missing on September 11, days after Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, in the white Ford pickup from the couple without her.

She was last seen on August 24 as she left a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, with Laundrie, her partner of two and a half years. The couple had been documenting their travel experiences as “van life travelers” since leaving New York on July 2 through a YouTube channel called Nomadic Statik. Petito used to FaceTime her mother from the road, causing Schmidt to worry when she didn’t hear from her daughter for several days.

On September 15, North Port police in Florida revealed that Laundrie was a “person of interest” in the case. Two days earlier, Laundrie himself had disappeared, although her family did not report her absence to the police for several days. She is believed to have headed to the nearby Carlton Reservation with only a backpack, prompting an intense manhunt in the area.

As law enforcement searched for Laundrie in Florida on September 19, investigators announced they had located a body believed to be Petito’s in the eastern portion of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The discovery was aided by another travel YouTuber who saw Ms. Petito’s truck in a video they had been editing. On October 20, Laundrie’s remains were found at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, connected to the Carlton Reservation, near where her personal belongings were found earlier that day.
