A 24-year veteran police officer of the Yonkers Police Department was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Tuckahoe Road near the Sprain Brook Parkway overpass on Friday, December 2. Sergeant Frank Gualdino’s car was struck by a teenager in a BMW, who lost control and plunged into oncoming traffic before crashing into the police car and then into an occupied Westchester County Bee-Line bus, authorities said according to the NY Post.
Frank Gualdino, was a veteran of the Yonker Police Department assigned to the traffic unit as a supervisor. He was married and had two children, ages 14 and 20. The 53-year-old sergeant was just nine months away from retirement when he died in the accident. The 2020 BMW M5, which the 16-year-old was driving, crashed into the 2012 Chevy Impala without police identification.

Following the incident, Gualdino, who suffered head and body injuries from him, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the BMW driver has not been revealed as he is a minor. The driver is a student from a local private school who only possessed a learner’s permit that he received less than three weeks ago.
The teen is currently in critical condition. The car reportedly belonged to his relative. According to a Facebook post from the police department, Mayor Mike Spano said, “Our hearts are heavy as the City of Yonkers has experienced an insurmountable loss. Sergeant Frank Gualdino was a cop and the epitome of Yonkers Finest.
Yonkers is a tight-knit community, and when we lose a member of our law enforcement community, we all grieve. Frank was someone we all knew and loved. He was a friend and a family man, the best of all of us and the best in Yonkers. May God protect Frank on his final journey and watch over his wife Lisa and his children Emily and Mark.
