He lured her by inviting her to call a cab from her hotel room and left her. Shields explains that the man later appeared in front of her naked and attacked her. “He was right about me. It was like wrestling,” she adds. Shields recounted that she “froze” and did not fight back for fear of being hurt. “God knows he knew how to disassociate me from my body. He had practiced it.”
She claims to have left the hotel room after the incident and cried in a taxi to the apartment of a friend of hers. For years, the actress denied what had happened to her. “I drank wine at dinner. I went up to the room. I was so confident…” of rising fame that “Sometimes I’m surprised I survived.”
