When both people were apparently shot in front of several of their kids during an alleged home invasion Sunday night on Columbus’ northeast side, Brandon Gilliam was killed and a woman was critically hurt, according to police. According to a press statement from the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called at 11:53 p.m.
on Sunday after a shooting was reported at a residence in the 6100 block of Laurelwood Court, a neighbourhood west of Cleveland Avenue.At 12:04 a.m., Brandon, 28, was declared dead there. Doctors sent a 28-year-old lady, who police did not name in the news release, to a neighbouring hospital, where she is still in critical condition.

Brandon Gilliam Cause of Death
Following a preliminary investigation, police came to the conclusion that Gilliam and the woman were home with their five young children when an id’d suspect broke in. After her mother was shot, some of the kids saw the shooting and assisted her in calling for help, according to the police.
In the tragic home invasion, police have not named a suspect. Following the shooting, Terry Kelley, a detective with the Columbus Police Division’s Homicide Unit, reported that all five of the kids had been taken into the care of Franklin County Children’s Services.
