A Texas teacher was fired after she asked students not to use the word “pedophiles” but rather “child attraction.” Amber Parker, 53, taught English at Franklin High School in El Paso. She was fired from her job after she was caught making these comments in class on tape. The video was shared on social networks. In an 18-second clip posted on social media TikTok, the teacher was heard telling students: “Stop calling them that. You can’t label people that. Enough, Diego. We won’t call them that.” He went on to instruct his English students: “We’ll call you MAPs, Minor Attracted Persons. So don’t judge people just because you want to have sex with a five-year-old.”

San Francisco teacher suspended for using cotton plants to teach class on slavery The school district was made aware of the incident and Parker was later suspended. The El Paso Independent School District’s board of trustees, led by Superintendent Diana Sayavedra, voted unanimously to fire the teacher. “After a thorough investigation was conducted, on September 6, 2022, during a special Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the decision to notify a Franklin High School teacher of the proposed termination. Any allegation of possible misconduct is thoroughly investigated and the safety of our students is a top priority,” the Daily Mail quoted a statement as saying.
It’s unclear exactly what the conversation between Parker and her students arose from, but the students said they were preparing to read ‘The Crucible’ at the time and that there was a discussion in class. Despite the suspension, some teachers and parents defended Parker, claiming that the conversation was taken out of context and that the clip did not reflect Parker’s beliefs. Others, however, criticized the teacher and a subsequent investigation led to her suspension. She has now been placed on administrative leave pending termination.
Ryann Ruvalcaba, a junior at Franklin High School, told Fox 17, “She [the teacher] was expressing how ridiculous that we [society] couldn’t call people pedophiles. That we [society] probably have to start calling them MAP because it can be offensive to them [pedophiles]. The class agreed.”
Meanwhile, a school board member named Daniel Call said he believed Parker was pretending to make a case to challenge his students and prepare to read the play, but just a week later, he changed his mind, telling KFoxTV: ” There was more that the public may not know that was included in the closed findings.” The school board had recommended Parker’s suspension without pay or termination at the end of the 2022-2023 trial work contract period. Parker can appeal the decision.
