A 31-year-old paramedic in North Carolina was arrested last week for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor teen in the back of an ambulance earlier this year. Upon reaching the main atrium, the victim informed hospital staff that Opadele had sexually assaulted her while they were in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Opadele, a Fort Mill Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedic, was the only person riding in the back of the vehicle with the victim at the time, police said.
Hospital medical staff treated the victim for his medical episode and also administered an additional exam and sexual assault kit. After an analysis of the sexual assault kit, examination of the physical evidence, and interviews with the victim and witnesses, detectives determined that there was probable cause to arrest and charge Opadele.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Opadele and on March 7, officers from CMPD’s Violent Offender Apprehension Team, with the assistance of the Kannapolis Police Department, arrested Opadele at his home. After several attempts by detectives to interview Opadele, he was transported and booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.
He was released later that day on $15,000 unsecured bond.
