A drug driver who killed his partner after losing control while speeding has been sentenced to four years in prison, a sentence the victim’s father called “disgusting”. Grantley Dean Penny, 31, was driving her aunt’s Hyundai Accent on September 1 last year when she lost control of the car and crashed into a power pole in Lesmurdie, Perth.
Her partner, Darryleen Koolmatrie, 23, died in the accident just three weeks after giving birth to her baby, named Grantley after her father. She was rushed to hospital before being pronounced dead, while Penny only received minor injuries. Penny was sentenced to four years in jail and must serve a minimum of two years before she is eligible for parole.
