Tyrell Edwards Incident Detail
“Aggravated dangerous driving was particularly egregious because it was repeated dangerous driving over a period of time that ultimately led to loss of control of the vehicle,” said Judge David Degnan on Thursday. In court, he described the situation as a “tragic incident,” acknowledging the relatives’ suffering. “I am aware that there are many family members and friends of the victims present in court.”
And I understand the pain they have had.” Five misdemeanor counts of reckless driving causing death were withdrawn. Following the guilty pleas, Edward’s attorney, Karen Watson, unsuccessfully contested prosecutors’ request to revoke her client’s bail and place him in custody. Watson contended that Edwards needed to be released from jail in order to receive psychiatric therapy for PTSD and major depressive disorder caused by the tragedy
.Degnan determined that there were no special or exceptional circumstances that could allow Edwards to remain free on bail because he would almost certainly face a full-time prison sentence, so the courtroom was closed and relatives of the victims were asked to leave before Edwards was escorted to a waiting police vehicle.
Outside court, Lily’s father, John, told reporters that he and the other parents were unable to go on with their lives and were reliving the sad day. “Every morning I think about her, and every night I think about her.” “She’ll be on my mind every day,” he remarked. “It’s something we’ll never be able to get over.” Van De Putte believes that traffic laws should be tighter and that parents should talk to their children about driving safety. The case has been ordered to sentencing and will be heard in Campbelltown District Court on August 24.
