After being attacked by 24-year-old Hadi Matar while on his way to give an on-stage lecture at the CHQ 2022 event in Chautauqua, near Buffalo, upstate New York, on Friday, August 12, Rushdie remains with life thanks to a fan. Matar attacked Rushdie as he was preparing to speak at the event. After the publication of “The Satanic Verses” in 1988, Rushdie was the subject of death threats for several years. The fatwa called for Rushdie’s execution for his novel The Satanic Verses. Before divorcing in 1993, the couple fled into hiding for several years.
Wiggins is an accomplished writer who received the Janet Heidinger Kafka Award in 1989 for his work titled “John Dollar.” In 2003, the novel Evidence of Things Unseen that he wrote was one of the books that competed for the coveted National Book Award.
