Robert Hoagland Wiki – Robert Hoagland Biography

A man who went missing from Connecticut nearly 10 years ago, and whose high-profile disappearance was featured on television, has been found dead in upstate New York, where he apparently lived under a different name. Robert Hoagland was last seen on the morning of July 28, 2013 at a gas station in Newtown, Connecticut, according to local police.

The next day, the police were called to search him after he failed to pick up a family member of his at the airport and failed to show up for work. Police found Hoagland’s wallet, medication and cell phone, as well as the family’s cars at his residence, but found no trace of Hoagland.

Robert Hoagland Incident Detail

For years the case remained open and possible sightings of Hoagland were reported and investigated across the country, Newtown police said. His disappearance made headlines and appeared on television in the Discovery investigative series “Disappeared.”

Nearly 10 years later, the mystery of his disappearance has finally been unraveled: Hoagland apparently moved to upstate New York and lived under the new name of Richard King. Hoagland’s discovery after all these years surprises his family, who are left with more questions than answers.

“It’s quite confusing. We’re trying to handle it right now to be honest. I haven’t really figured out any details,” Christopher Hoagland, Robert’s son, told NBC News on Thursday. Christopher, who lives in Minnesota, will be traveling to Connecticut or New York soon to join his family, adding that they don’t know what might have prompted Hoagland to leave.

On Monday, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department in New York contacted Newtown police. saying they responded to “an untimely death” of a man at a residence in Rock Hill, New York, and while they were initially unable to identify him, they did find documents bearing Robert Hoagland’s name.

Investigators looked up that name and found that he was not in Newtown. On Tuesday, Newtown police detectives met with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and confirmed Hoagland’s identity. He was 59 years old at the time of his death, police said.

They learned that Hoagland had been living in Sullivan County since approximately November 2013 under the new name. His remains were taken to the local coroner for an autopsy, but police said there were “no signs of foul play.”

Police said there was “no criminal aspect” to Hoagland’s disappearance and no further information would be released “out of respect for the family.” NBC News has contacted the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner for comment.
