Peter Usborne Wiki – Peter Usborne Biography
Peter Usborne, the founder of the children’s book publisher Usborne and a co-creator of the magazine Private Eye, has passed away at the age of 85, according to the publisher. He passed away this morning, “unexpected but quietly,” The Bookseller reported. Usborne established his publishing company in 1973, and in February of this year, at Windsor Castle, King Charles awarded him a CBE for his contributions to literature.
“Peter was, in the greatest sense of the word, a genius,” the publisher declared in a statement. “His brilliance was equaled only by his commitment to make literature accessible to all children.” His enthusiasm for “doing things better” than any other children’s book publisher, along with a youthful energy and curiosity that made him light up every room he entered, served as the fuel for this tenacity.

Everyone who had the good fortune to meet him said that he was an amazing publisher, an inspiring leader, and a very kind, giving man. He will be sadly missed. Usborne leaves behind his wife Wendy, his children Martin and Nicola, as well as five grandchildren. The managing director of Usborne and his daughter, Nicola Usborne, expressed her heartbreak over his passing. I cannot express how much we shall miss him.
He was a brilliant, perpetually inquiring, perpetually eager man who was also incredibly kind, incredibly kind, honourable, and, at his core, a man of principles. The ideal father, in my opinion, was him. “He frequently made light of his intentions to live forever, and we all wished him many more years. We find some comfort in the knowledge that he had such a full life till the very end.
Usborne Publishing and HarperCollins agreed to a distribution deal in November so that the latter could provide books to American libraries, schools, and specialty shops. Nicola Usborne continued, “He spent his very last day in the office yesterday in a whole-day meeting with HarperCollins US talking about the US trade channel development that he was so enthused by.
He had taken the tube, like he always did, to get to his cherished office. He was leading the life he had always desired. He was never able to see why someone would want to retire, and he would have been overjoyed to never have done so.Usborne received the London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, 12 years after being awarded the MBE for his services to the publishing industry.
