After authorities discovered his mother, a child psychiatrist, fatally stabbed to death in her house on Thursday, Peter Martinelli, a 24-year-old Texas man, is currently in jail and is being charged with murder. The 4500 block of 20th Street residence was the scene of a domestic disturbance report at 7:08 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Lubbock Police Department. When police arrived, they discovered Dr. Brigitte Curtis, 63, in the backyard of the residence.

According to the affidavit, the 911 caller described the suspect and stated that the suspect was moving the body toward the back of the house. The victim suffered from a “large neck wound.”
Police were informed by Witness #1 that Martinelli struck his mother with “blows above the head.” According to the affidavit, Martinelli “knelt on Curtis and continued to beat her.” According to Witness #2, the suspect was standing over Curtis’ body and using a hose to shower water on it.After police placed a handcuffed, shirtless Martinelli on the ground at the scene, KLBK cameras started recording.
According to jail documents examined by Law & Crime, the defendant is currently accused of murder and is being detained at the Lubbock County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond. Martinelli is also accused of attempting to flee on foot in order to avoid being taken into custody. StarCare Specialty Health System released a statement following the “tragic passing” of Dr. Brigitte Curtis, KLBK reported. ”
Our hearts are broken and our prayers are with the many people who were so positively impacted by her,” the statement read.The American Board of Medical Specialties granted Curtis board certifications in child and adolescent psychiatry, according to Texas Medical Board data. Curtis graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1987.
