Masuto Kudo, who played for Japanese third-tier club Tegevajaro Miyazaki, fell ill on October 2 and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the ventricles of the brain. Kudo previously played for Kashiwa Reysol, Vancouver Whitecaps, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Brisbane Roar.

“We are devastated by the early death of a great player,” Tegevajaro Miyazaki said in a statement. “He played for Japan and had a great record, but he remained humble. “He had a great attitude and cared about his teammates, the club and the fans.”
Kudo scored six goals in 12 games during Kashiwa Reysol’s run to the Asian Champions League semi-finals in 2013, and scored twice in four appearances for Japan that year.
