Gonzalez’s daughter said to Dallas Fox station KDFW that her family had long harboured fears of Holcombe while speaking via a translator. She also suggested that Holcombe’s purported hostility against Gonzalez and his family may have been influenced by race and nationality. He said, ‘You Mexicans shouldn’t be here,’ in actuality. Why are you Mexicans here? You need to return to that location,'” the translator allegedly said to the station.
On a $250,000 bond, Holcombe is being held in the county jail.The murder brings to mind the shooting death of Jordan Davis, a Black high school student, who was shot and killed by Michael David Dunn, 45, following a dispute over loud music outside of a petrol station and was widely believed to have been racially motivated. Dunn was found guilty of first-degree murder and given a life sentence.
