After a court judged her partner not guilty, a British woman who was accused of pushing him to his death from a hotel balcony in Turkey has returned home. After her lover, Reece Pegram, was discovered dead at her resort the previous year, Kayley Myers, a native of Newcastle, was imprisoned for several months in the Mediterranean nation.
The 32-year-old lady was accused of throwing her 5-foot-5-inch partner off the balcony, starting a 16-month nightmare in which she was threatened with life in prison. But now that she’s back in Britain, she must fight a new battle to prove her innocence and not be responsible for her boyfriend’s death. On March 11 of the previous year, they traveled to the Turkish resort of Side in Antalya to commemorate their first year of marriage. In order to prepare for Reece’s 23rd birthday celebration a few days later, the couple booked a room at the five-star Side Star Elegance Hotel.

The first day was spent drinking, according to Kayley, and at 8 p.m., staff employees brought Reece to her hotel room. A dispute over whether or not he was cheating ensued, during which a glass was smashed and Kayley cut her hand while attempting to pick up the fragments. She claims that as she went to grab more drinks after cleaning up in the bathroom, she heard a crash and assumed it was her boyfriend slamming the door.
The former hairdresser then texted her “telling her that she was done with him” before getting worried when she didn’t respond or go back to the room. After that, Kayley claims she returned to sleep only to be awakened in the middle of the night by Turkish police who instructed her to put on her clothes and accompany them to a nearby police station.
After waiting for 12 hours to learn what was going on, a translator finally showed there and broke the news that would rock her world: Reece had died and had been accused of murder. She stated to the Sun: “I thought about the last words I said to him, that she didn’t want to be with him and that she hated him.” She was done with him, I remarked.
“I wish that love, rather than anger, had been my last words to him.”The translator said, “‘You’ve killed him,'” She was imprisoned in Turkey for the following six months while she awaited the outcome of her legal proceeding and vehemently protested her innocence. Prosecutors wanted her to serve 25 years in prison.
When the experts completed Reece’s autopsy report in October, Kayley was given a temporary release; nevertheless, she was not permitted to leave the country. When the report was published, it said that she had cocaine and alcohol in her system at the time of her death and that she had fallen feet first from the balcony in front of her.
Her attorney is said to have argued throughout her case that the combination of using these drugs and antidepressants can lead to suicidal thoughts. They added, “My client is not capable of lifting the deceased person, who is much heavier than her, and throwing them over the balcony railing.” Despite this, the case against her wasn’t officially abandoned until last month on July 17. A court stated: “There is no clear-cut and convincing evidence that is necessary to punish her for the crime, beyond a reasonable doubt.
The wrongdoing offense against the defendant is dismissed.’ When Kayley was told she could go home, she broke down in tears and claims that when she got there, she realized she “had lost everything: my job, my house, my friends, and my family.” Although she expressed her desire to spare Reece’s family further suffering, she said that “I need people to know that I didn’t do it.”
I’ve been accused of being violent and hateful, but I’m not, and the only thing I’m guilty of is getting into a fight with my partner while we were on vacation. If I could, I would take his place in a heartbeat. He had a great deal to live for.Every day I think about him. He was my closest pal.
