Confrontational audio of the moment a woman fatally stabbed her abusive husband was played in a Brisbane court.
“You know I’m going to jail for this,” Jean Louise Herholdt can be heard screaming on tape at Brisbane High Court on Tuesday. Herholdt, 30, was initially charged with murder after Sean Murray died from a single stab wound to the back at his north Brisbane home in August 2020.
Herholdt had been in a violent relationship with Murray for years and planned to escape, stashing money in a hidden nest egg at the Murrumba Downs residence, the court heard. However, Murray discovered the cash and took it, sparking an emotionally charged argument that was captured on audio from the home’s CCTV camera.
Two five-minute recordings were played after Judge Peter Davis warned the public gallery about their confrontational content.

One man can be heard saying “stop, stop” before others yell as Herholdt at some point grabs the knife.
Murray was stabbed in the lungs and died shortly after.
The wound was 15 cm deep. Between the two recordings, Murray had assaulted Herholdt in her front yard and dragged her back inside, the court heard. Neighbors had witnessed Murray’s violence and called police, defense attorney Andrew Hoare said.
Herholdt was furious when Murray tried to “create a facade of calm” before officers arrived and stabbed her husband, the court heard. Herholdt, a trained nurse, continues to abuse her husband and demands his money back on audio before realizing the severity of the injury.

“Given the emotionally charged state of the situation that is graphically depicted in the recordings, I would not lack remorse for that,” Judge Davis said.
The court heard that Herholdt stabbed Murray in anger, but she did not mean to kill him. “My client had been financially constrained for years and cut off from her family and her friends (by Murray),” Hoare said.
Herholdt pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday. Judge Davis reserved the decision for himself and will sentence Herholdt, who has been in custody for 27 months, at a date to be determined.
