A second person died after a “disrespect” fight turned into a deadly shooting. Jacory Simpson, 23, died Tuesday after being shot outside a shopping center at Red Bird intersection in Dallas last week. Cameron Cooks, 20, told police Simpson disrespected her while Cooks and his girlfriend went to eat at a restaurant. on Westmoreland Road on Friday.
“Nobody talks to me that way. He’s not my dad,” Cooks said, according to an arrest affidavit. Cooks responded by shooting Simpson multiple times. The affidavit states that Simpson attempted to climb over a counter inside the restaurant after shooting Jones. In the process, he appeared to shoot himself again with the gun he was carrying.

Simpson was taken to the hospital where he remained until his death. During the shooting, police say Simpson shot 19-year-old Donovan Jones in the head. Jones later died from his injuries. Police don’t know if Jones was mistakenly attacked or hit.
Police said they planned to charge Simpson with murder if he survived. Cooks had been charged with assault causing bodily harm in connection with the Simpson shooting. He will now be accused of murder. Cooks is being held in the Dallas County Jail. Four people were injured in a drive-by shooting at the same location Saturday during a candlelight vigil for Jones.
Police said someone inside a white Chrysler opened fire, striking four people who were attending a candlelight vigil for Jones. No arrests have been made in the drive-by shooting.
