The family of an aspiring primary school teacher paid tribute to their “bright, funny and bubbly” daughter who was tragically killed in an accident on the A13. Grace Payne was a passenger in a Toyota Prius that collided with a van traveling in the wrong direction on the Essex-bound carriageway in the early hours of November 25.
The van failed to stop for Essex Police officers before turning onto the A13. Police officers followed the vehicle on the correct side of the road. Sadly, Grace was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a 39-year-old man, was taken to the hospital where he remains in serious condition. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failure to stop for police.

“Grace graduated from the University of Kent this year with a BA in history and philosophy. She spent much of the summer traveling around Europe with friends from university – trips to Italy, Greece, Sicily, Barcelona and Amsterdam. There were family holidays in Devon and Wales. He passed his driving test, celebrated his 21st birthday and started working at an architectural firm in London which he instantly loved.
