The content of Glenn Hirsch’s suicide note was leaked, drawing strong criticism of the Queens District Attorney’s office and the New York Police Department (NYPD), calling their work sloppy and ethically challenged. Hirsch, also known as “Duck Sauce Killer”, was to appear in court on August 5, 2022 for his hearing in Queens Supreme Court. He was later found dead at his residence with a gunshot wound as all signs pointed to suicide.
Hirsch’s wife, Dorothy Hirsch, 62, was arrested on weapons charges when police raided her Briarwood home and found eight guns and ammunition. Hirsch’s six-page suicide note mentions that firearms found at his wife’s residence were hidden in tin foil and cardboard boxes without her knowledge. In one of the statements, Hirsch said he moved the firearms and ammunition to his wife’s residence after closing one of her storage facilities. “I want to take full responsibility for the eight guns recovered from a closet in her apartment. I acquired these firearms years ago,” he wrote.

Hirsch was released on $500,000 bond before dying by suicide. In his suicide note, he pointed the finger at the district attorney as he ended his letter with, “I am not someone who would willingly give up the fight. But the pain associated with this series of events is too much to bear. I have not made an emotional decision, but an intellectual one. No matter how hard I try, I analyzed the problem and there is no solution.”
The defendant has raised questions about the investigation carried out by the police department into the suicide note, claiming that he was wrongly framed due to political pressure, poor judgment and sloppy work. “My indictment and subsequent arrest in connection with this matter is one of the most obscene and egregious cases of libel and wrongful arrest in recent times. It is a textbook case of sloppy police work, confirmation bias, political pressure, and a rush to judgment,” Hirsch wrote.
Hirsch has implied by his letter that he was an innocent man with a caring side and a very good sense of humor who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was convinced that he had nothing to do with the murder of Zhiwen Yen, a father of three children. Hirsch also noted that Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, also known as a “notorious cat hoarder,” might have had something to do with the murder. “All initial reports suggested that Mr. Yan was the unwanted target and was hit by a stray bullet or that it was a road rage incident and someone approached him due to a previous incident,” Hirsch said.
