The body of Delano Burkes, a 26-year-old man last seen leaving a Houston Heights area bar earlier this month, was recovered Friday after an extended search. According to FOX 26’s Matthew Seedorff, Burke’s family members confirmed that employees of a canal-operating tugboat found Burkes’ body floating in the Houston Ship Channel.
Burkes was last seen Nov. 13 leaving McIntyre’s, a Heights-area bar about 15 miles from where his body was finally discovered. The law enforcement investigation into Burkes’ disappearance is now considered a homicide investigation, according to Seedorff.

Burkes was reportedly bar-hopping with friends in the Heights the night he went missing, according to Seedorff. Surveillance cameras last recorded the 26-year-old being escorted from McIntyre’s in the 1200 block of West 20th Street around 1 a.m. m. on Sunday, November 13. Family members also told Seedorff that they believed Burkes’ cell phone was dying and that someone might have drugged him at one of the bars he was frequenting that night. “The way he was groping, it almost looked like he was on drugs or something,”
Karen Jeffley, Burke’s mother, said after being able to review surveillance tape of her son’s last recorded moments. “People keep mentioning, it looks like his side was hurting.” Texas Equusearch is offering $5,000 for any information leading to arrests in the Burke case.
