The body of a domestic violence victim was found hacked to pieces and stuffed into suitcases from her Brooklyn apartment. The victim’s devastated aunt, Dasia Johnson, 22, criticized building staff for doing nothing to protect her. Security guards at the Linwood Street apartment building failed to stop her abusive boyfriend from entering the building after witnesses saw him hitting her in the hallways and called police numerous times, according to neighbors.
Johnson also had an active restraining order against her boyfriend and had previously been arrested for going to the apartment in March to collect her belongings, law enforcement sources said. The aunt, who declined to share her name, said: “The building staff didn’t do enough. They could have stopped him from going in.” “Here they dropped the ball,” the aunt told the police by phone.

On Sept. 21, Johnson’s aunt asked the building’s security guard to perform a wellness check after her phone had been turned off for a while. When the guard arrived at the door, Johnson’s boyfriend and another man were in the unit and refused to let the guards in. The guard left to call the police, and in the meantime, the two suspects fled on foot. The aunt said, “They let them out, there is 24-hour security in the building.” Police entered the unit and found the woman’s body in two suitcases, her blood-stained bathtub and a butcher knife near her, according to the New York Post.
The aunt remembered that at the time of her death, she was working to put her life back together and was on her way. “Dasia was a loving and full of life girl. She worked, she wanted to finish school. She wanted to be a teacher”, said the aunt, and she added: “She loved her sister, she loved her mother. a pretty girl. It is sad that her life has unfortunately been cut short.”
Johnson was a client of HousingPlus, a nonprofit group that provides stable and supportive housing to vulnerable women, such as victims of domestic violence, people with criminal records and women with mental health issues. The building where Johnson lived provides on-site security. The aunt said Johnson tried to leave the boy “numerous times.” “It’s so sad. She was so skinny. This guy dominated her… He was sucking on her. He was using her kindness. Her mother is terminally ill and she needed a friend, and she thought he was that friend,” the heartbroken aunt said. Johnson’s boyfriend is currently a person of interest in his murder and police are looking for him.
