Megan Espinoza allegedly died during a boob procedure, and Carlos Chacon, a California plastic surgeon, is charged with her murder. Espinoza apparently lay dying on the surgical table as Chacón ‘left’ the room to attend to other patients.According to the DailyMail, Espinoza, 36, experienced a heart attack in December 2018 while having breast augmentation surgery at the Divino Surgery Centre in Bonita, San Diego.

Initially charged with manslaughter, Chacón eventually faced murder accusations after prosecutors claimed to have discovered more proof of his negligence being the cause of her passing. Chacón appeared in court on Monday, April 10 and entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation of second-degree murder.

According to DailyMail, District Attorney Gina Darvas reportedly said that Chacón allegedly delayed calling 911 for more than three hours, prohibited his staff from doing so, and left the operating room to tend to four additional patients while Espinoza lay dying.

“You cannot be treating the victim at the table while she is in your office seeing other patients,” Darvas opined. That struck us as being particularly egregious. In an effort to boost revenue, according to Espinoza, a mother of two, Chacón employed an unqualified nurse to give the anaesthetic.

According to the arrest document, Espinoza had a heart attack at around 2:30 p.m. during operation, but Chacón neglected to call for assistance from the emergency services. According to the paper, “Chacón made a conscious decision to prevent others from providing emergency life-saving efforts on at least 7 occasions,” as reported by DailyMail.

Additionally, Chacón allegedly gave orders to his staff to conceal both his illness and the real circumstances surrounding her husband, Moisés Espinoza. Despite calling two doctors for advice on what to do, according to Darvas’ testimony in court, Chacón did not completely reveal what had happened.

At 5:03 p.m., one of the doctors instructed him to call 911; but, he didn’t do so until 5:24 p.m., more than three hours after the patient had experienced cardiac arrest. According to DailyMail, Darvas claimed Chacón made the “intentional decision” to carry out the treatment using a nurse who lacked the required anaesthetic expertise.

Chacón was detained at his place of employment before to his court appearance on Monday, April 10. Although the prosecution had requested $5 million in bond, Chacón’s bail was only set at $500,000. After being freed, Chacón won’t be permitted to leave California and will need to relinquish his passport to his attorney.

Prospective patients must also be made aware of the criminal allegations Chacón is facing, and Chacón requires state authorization 72 hours before performing surgery.

After a month in the hospital in severe condition, doctors notified Espinoza’s family that they did not anticipate him to regain neurological function. On January 28, 2019, Espinoza passed away. The legal battle between the families of Espinoza and Chacón was resolved in December 2022.
