Alexei Anatolievich Navalny is a Russian opposition leader, lawyer and anti-corruption activist. Organized anti-government demonstrations and stood as a candidate to advocate reforms against corruption.

He staged anti-government demonstrations and took office to advocate for reforms against president Vladimir Putin and his government, avoiding corruption in Russia and direct reference to Navalny. Navalny was a member of the Opposition Coordinating Council of Russia. He is the leader of the Future Russia party and the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK).

Alexei Navalny Arrested – Charged

Alexei Navalny, the leader of Russia’s main opposition party, has been transferred to a maximum security prison facility, state media outlet TASS reported on Tuesday.

Last March, a Moscow court sentenced Navalny to serve another nine years in a maximum security prison after he was convicted of fraud charges on charges he denies.

The head of the regional public oversight commission, Sergey Yazhan, told the news outlet that Navalny reached the IK-6 penal colony in Melekhovo in the Vladimir Region. However, a spokesperson for Navalny said that his team has yet to receive confirmation that the transfer is complete. The legal team reportedly came to the penal colony where Navalny was being held to hold a meeting with him, but was not there.

“When the decision went into effect, he was transferred to a maximum security prison, but we don’t know which one,” Navalny’s lawyer, Olga Mikhailova, told CNN. “The exact whereabouts are unknown to us.”

“We will continue to search,” She added.

“The problem with being transferred to another colony is not just that the high-security colony is much scarier. As long as we don’t know where Alexei is, he will stay that way,” Navalny spokesperson Kira Yarmysh said in a social media post. It’s one-on-one with the system trying to kill him, so now our main task is to find him as soon as possible.”

Alexei Navalny Career

Navalny is of Russian and Ukrainian descent. Her father is from Zalissia, a village in the Ivankiv Raion, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, near the border with Belarus. Navalny grew up in Obninsk, about 100 kilometers southwest of Moscow, but spent his childhood summers in Ukraine with his grandmother, gaining proficiency in the Ukrainian language. His parents, Anatoly Navalny and Lyudmila Navalnaya, own a basket weaving factory. Since 1994, it has been running in the village of Kobyakovo, Vologda Oblast.

Navalny graduated from Kalininets secondary school (level 3 according to ISCED) in 1993.] In 1998, Navalny graduated from the People’s Friendship University of Russia with a degree in law. Since 1998, Navalny has worked as a lawyer in various Russian companies. In 2009, Navalny became a Kirov Oblast lawyer and a member of the bar association.
